Plein Air WORKSHOPS

Plein Air painting is a phrase borrowed from the equivalent meaning "open (in full) air". It is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, also called in French: peinture sur le motif ("painting of the object(s) or what the eye actually sees"), where a painter reproduces the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting. This method contrasts with studio painting or academic rules; those might create a predetermined look. En plein air can also be used to describe other activities where a person partakes in an outdoor environment."

Plein air painting workshops. The objective is to introduce students to field painting technique. Concepts covered will be: Composition, drawing, color mixing, painting. Most of all to get outside, adventure, get creative and have fun. All art levels welcome, all ages welcome although children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. I will have a paint, paper, paint brushes, pencils, canvas...the basic art kit available for purchase. I will not be supplying easels, chairs or any plein art equipment. I'm a bit simplistic and enjoy painting or doodling sitting on the ground or rock, in a way, it only seems natural. Students are welcome to bring a blanket, chair or easel for themselves. We will meet at a designated location to collect supplies and discuss composition ideas, then adventure out to find the perfect location. Once everyone has chosen an object or composition, students will then choose perspective or view of the area to sketch "The Perfect Spot". After sketch is complete students will begin to paint introducing colors, paying close attention to true colors in natural light, shadows, perception, changes in environment according to sun, wind, clouds etc.... Let nature be your studio there are no academic rules. These paintings are all about you, your impression of this place,  your perception at this moment. This workshop is to get out, away from your phone, computer or confined spaces we find ourselves in day to day life.......take it all in OPEN YOUR EYES.... Think of me as your guide more so than a teacher.  I will be available throughout and will venture to you for questions, suggestions, discussion and guidance.
